As I slowly merge my way out of last weeks Kundalini Yoga bubble, I’m feeling called to reflect on some things I’ve learnt up until this point, rather than bang on about details of the yoga training itself. There are some sweet lessons that I want to share with you – so first let’s back the truck up a little and start from the beginning.

I want to start off by saying this – over 18 months ago I planted a seed in my mind about becoming a Kundalini Yoga Teacher. It was one of those ideas that just dropped into my awareness one day, kind of out of nowhere. Until this point I had practiced yoga on and off, but I could never see myself as a yoga teacher – especially because the only fitness teaching I’d done up until now was being a Les Mills Body Attack instructor – which is pretty much the complete opposite end of the scale!

Yogi Bhajan - Kundalini YogaI had never heard of Kundalini Yoga until I randomly came across a class online and my curiosity was triggered. I found myself instantly drawn to learning more about this specific practice and the teachings of Yogi Bhajan (pictured) – Master of Kundalini Yoga. The more I read up on this powerful technology, the more I fell in love with it and knew in my heart that I’ve got to teach it some day in a new way. There was just something about it, and the more I practiced, the more my outside (and inside) World started to shift.  That very first day that I “randomly found it” (or should I say – it found me) a little seed was planted. And the thing with seeds is, first they are planted and although you can’t see them, you know they are there. You trust in them even before you see the full manifestation and before you have to figure out all the answers to ‘how and when’, just know that they will always blossom and come into fruition when they are meant to – it’s law.

So I followed my curiosity and started doing Kundalini Yoga from home (yogaglo.com is the bomb) and soon hooked up with my first teacher in Perth, Rosie Rees. Turns out Rosie had just moved over from the East Coast and was starting her first ever 6 week Kundalini Yoga beginners course – of course this timing lined up perfectly because the Universe doesn’t mess around with alignment. First rule – when things show up effortlessly on your path, your job is to follow the crumbs.

When I graduated as a Life Coach I started running Sister Circles, and the main thing I was so excited about was to start teaching some of the basic Kundalini Yoga exercises and breathing techniques I had been learning about. I didn’t think twice or over-analyse it, I just started sharing because it felt natural and fun. I started saying to my coach at the time and my close friends, ‘I think I want to become a Kundalini Yoga Teacher.’ Second rule – Start with where you’re at and show the Universe you mean business. Being in the energy of that which you desire is how you start drawing it towards you. It doesn’t mean you have to have it all sorted right now, it just means that you are consciously putting it out and moving in that direction energetically from where you are now. If you want to write a book, start blogging or writing your ideas in a journal each day. If you want to be a speaker, start using your voice and sharing through videos and workshops. And if you want to teach, then start teaching the best you can with where you’re at! It doesn’t matter where you start, it just matters that you frign start!! If you don’t complete step 1, the Universe can’t show you step 2.

I then forgot about my desire to teach Kundalini Yoga and put my energy and focus into building my coaching business for about 10 months. I kept up with my own practice at home and kept nerding out and googling more about the teachings every few weeks to keep it in my awareness – because for the seeds to grow you have to keep fertilising and watering them, right? I printed off an image saying ‘Kundalini Yoga Teacher’ and stuck it on my vision board. Although I saw it every morning, I wasn’t putting direct energy to it, it was just there to let the Universe know that I’m paying attention to the signs and I’m down when the time is right.

A few months ago after creating my first 8 week online course, I asked the universe for my next step. I often meditate on questions asking for my next step to be revealed clearly, because hey, there’s a bigger plan going down than what my little mind can see. I remember lying in bed one night and hearing the words ‘It’s time to teach Kundalini Yoga.’ I hadn’t thought about it for months! Cue Ego: ‘Hmmm, ok Universe that’s great. How the frig am I going to pay for that? Where am I going to do that? Don’t you think I’ve done enough courses for a while?’ Apparently not.

kundalini yoga perthI jumped online and checked out one of the training courses in which I had just missed the cut off date for March and the next course would not be be starting until next year. I felt a bit disappointed, however I let it go with the knowing that it will happen when it’s meant to. Two nights later, it was 11:30pm and I was still awake thinking about the training when I got the nudge ‘Check the website again, just in case.’ So I did, and sure enough they had opened another training up that day to start in May. Before my fears could take over and think of 800 whack stories on why I shouldn’t do the training – I signed up, paid the deposit and then went to sleep. Third rule –  Take the green light the minute it’s presented or you’ll always be hanging out on orange.

I’ve now returned home after my first week of training with a full heart, a bunch of new beautiful friends, big lessons and deep confirmations. I’m having those ‘wait a minute, did that just happen?’ moments because it only feels like yesterday that I watched that video and thought about becoming a teacher, and that was almost 2 years ago! Now it’s manifested, It’s done – and I’m doing it. It feels like it is happening so easily now that my ego wants to question it all and look for a reason why it shouldn’t feel this fun and natural, and then I remember rule number four – Life is allowed to flow and feel good because that’s alignment. If things don’t feel like they are flowing and constantly moving forward with creation, then there’s a misalignment with your true self. Your path of least resistance is always there, we just get too up in our heads with excuses rather than just frign getting on it! So ask yourself, is my life flowing, or do I feel stuck and constricted? You’ll know what misalignment feels like because you’ll always feel like something is missing, no matter what you do. There will always be something more trying to tug and pull you another way, but you’re pretending that you can’t feel it because you’re choosing to give your power over to your fears and BS excuses instead. Yah – hurts doesn’t it?

Please know that all your self-doubt, fear and cray cray ego-talk will come firing up out of nowhere when you decide to walk a different path and turn your life upside down simply because something inside is calling you to do so. Know that when that happens it’s your cue to buckle in and believe in yourself more than ever before. Because rule number five – you are MEANT to follow your heart, so expect miracles when you do.
